I have a problem with "teachers" telling students to speak "American", especially if the situation does not call them to speak a certain language.

I'd have laughed if the student in question was speaking Navajo or another native American language.

Shut TFU and stop talking in some foreign language and ignoring the teacher, paid by tax dollars.

Cliffside Park is FULL of illegals.

One example:
Cliffside Park Illegal Videotaped Girl, 13, In Shower, Police Charge | Cliffside Park-Edgewater Daily Voice

This is the problem.

They feel that they are so entitled (thanks to libs, who only want their votes) they don't have once ounce of appreciation.

They need to take a trip back "home" and get over themselves.

And stay there, if it's so much "better".

You may just be a ******* that is easy to spot. I have a friend that works in retail and when they don't want to deal with a customer due to attitude, etc. they play the 'no habla ingles' routine just to mess with them.

Were you wearing Trump gear or a MAGA hat by any chance?

My wife and I have started speaking Spanish when we are out in public just to mess with the Trumpers.

Far as I'm concerned - when you're at home speak whatever language you want - but you better learn, know and understand English if you plan on living here.

Better yet you converse with the pretty Latina cashier at the fast food counter, meanwhile holding up the line of rednecks behind you that need to back at the job site in a hurry.

Or what, someone is going to write "you better learn" sternly on the internet?

This teacher showed her bigotry solely by using the term "speak American". No such thing. As a retired Para having worked in both NY and Florida, my tongue would have been bleeding to keep my mouth shut to her. There is no such thing as the American Language, and she should know that having a BA Teaching Degree. If students want to speak Spanish or any other language among themselves, they have every right to do so. At the very least, why didn't she ask them to speak ENGLISH not "American"? Bigotry.

Lesson from real life, Teach. When my husband's boss came to America from London, to start his own IT company here, he was asked to say something in "American". I will quote what he said to all of you. "Sir, you Yanks are speaking MY Native English Language, and never forget that". Enough American Language for you???

Glad the kids are bilingual I guess its unreasonable to expect students in an American classroom to speak English or American which is different than UK English. Of course these may be the same kids down the road complaining that the school system failed to teach them.... But its all about them so that's ok..
