I think you have a misguided view of what nationalism is. Love of ones own country above all others is what nationalism is, and that is anything but a bad thing. It is a good thing, and it is desirable.
Patriotism is what I call "national self-respect", wanting to deal honorably with other countries and taking stands for human dignity (speak out against human rights abuses, promote peace to the extent that it's possible, making sure our government is responsive to the needs of its least fortunate members, keep the wealthiest groups from influencing politics to the point it's a detriment to everyone else, ensure adequate class mobility, urge other governments to be responsive to the needs of their own people, and so forth).
Nationalism is promoting us against them attitudes like "we're superior to them, therefore they have nothing of value to offer", "they don't belong here", "go back to your own country", "Geeet Awf Mah Prah-per-tee" attitudes, and have a foreign policy as reckless as the intro to Team America: World Police
George Bush totally redeemed himself in my book with his comment after the inauguration.
He had me at "that was some weird ****...."
And I do love that he has become an artist.
I honestly believe he was a good person, who did not want to be president, but was basically coronated by the GOP establishment and then made the huge mistake of making Cheney his VP. He took some very bad advice. It should have been Jeb running.
Can I have some of what you're smoking? You seem lost.
But for the record, I never said spiking trees was environmentalism although some do.
How is that any different than those claiming some silly actions are 'nationalism'?
You seem to be insinuating that nationalism supports military incursions because some people who say they are nationalists support it.
Nationalism has nothing to do with such things. Period. The end.
