I agree.

Why are there so many dumb people in America and WHY is America considered "the" Super Power?

Because Americans are smarter.....duhhh
Try starting a real thread, with a smart question!

There seems to be two sides here. What I see as dumb is each side thinking they are the better one. This is a huge country and it takes everyone to keep the machine running. So tell me what good it does to argue back and forth about who is dumb. At the end of the day who here believes they actually changed someone's opinion? Like lots of things in this country at this time, we would rather be divisive, than work together to better things for the entire country. For whatever reason we all think our side is better than the other, and the one thing we have in common is that eventually that thinking is going to bite us all in the ass. Have a great day and my best to all, no matter what side you allign with.

It's not so much that people are dumb, but that they are ignorant. Our education system has failed because it has become indoctrination rather than education. People do not know our history, and what they are taught about it (which is very little) is a lie. The Left took over our schools many years ago. Our children are not taught to think, but they are taught what to think.

I would say you haven't traveled much. There are dumb and ignorant people all over the world and the term is subjective and differs depending on the culture.

Having lived and traveled in many parts of the world, I'd say some of the 'dumbest' people I've met are highly 'educated' people in Asian countries such as South Korea. Despite spending countless hours studying and memorizing, many of these people know very little and do not have the ability to use reason or logic in the sense that we are accustomed to in Western society.

Moreover, in Europe, vast numbers of people are of the underclass, lacking education or a means to support themselves, merely existing.

I would also venture to say seemingly intelligent and highly educated people in many countries, including the US are actually very 'dumb', not understanding even basic logic or economics. Some of the smartest people I've met are actually those, who have not been indoctrinated by social justice theories in years of 'schooling'.

Agree with all of that 100%.

I would also suggest that not all that many, even in Western society, have the ability to use reason or logic. They just merely 'emote.' Emoting is NOT thinking rationally, logically, or critically. It's just having a visceral, emotional reaction. We've seen that countless times here on POC.

it's so easy to end up on top in America. Average intelligence and a drive to succeed puts you in the top 10%. Most people here have neither.

Let's revisit the Texas Republican Party's platform which openly discourages critical thinking.

“We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.”

Some years ago the conservative critique was that we were abandoning the Western humanistic tradition, this was during the days of the heyday of the counter-culture and was expressed in books like The Closing of the American Mind. Now they have become the most ardent enemies of the Western rationalist tradition. A bit ironic, isn’t it?

Kind of a dumb post but I will bite.

Well we are a superpower because we have more weapons than anyone else and a GDP only rivaled by China.

Throughout history is has been the country with the most might is the greatest not how smart the average person is.

As far as IQ, we have control over how much education we get but not much can change our IQ. If the problem is education perhaps we need to rethink our union run school districts how poorly we compare with other countries.
