She's a citizen, but I'm sure you knew that. And it doesn't matter what race a person is--they have to go back if they're here illegally. What do you want us to do--have totally open borders with no laws whatsoever just to prove it's not about skin color?

Families fault. Living here 10 years illegally, wrong of them and they have broken the law.
I can see wanting to do anything to save your baby and get surgery, but they should of went back!

I agree in full.

And by the way -- Mexico has hospitals. And DOCTORS!
They have private hospitals and public hospitals and they have specialists, and nurses!
In fact, you can get all kinds of surgeries in Mexico. Thousands of Americans travel to Mexico each year for care that is more affordable there than here.
(You can get a complete prenatal care package and birth in a private Mexico hospital for a few hundred bucks... and yet they STILL hobble across the border)
Imagine that!

I don't agree with a physical wall, but it's people like you - who excuse and encourage illegal immigration - who are part of the reason WHY a wall needs to be discussed in the first place.
But, I see you don't want to build a wall, and you'll also resist other non-wall ways of cracking down on immigration and getting control of our borders, eh?
Just admit it: You don't like borders. That's fine. Plenty of people on issues like this know how to EMOTE rather than THINK CRITICALLY.
And, while I am not a Trump supporter, I am a fellow-traveler on the illegal immigration question. Like it or not, immigration and national security is ACTUALLY something the government is charged with under the US CONSTITUTION - NOT providing healthcare to foreign nationals.
You want to start paying for the medical expenses of 1 billion desperate and dying people in this world, then take your money and start furiously donating to charities that specialize in assisting foreigners in the 3rd world. I guarantee your dollar goes a LOT further in a foreign country than in the US. You can help 10 little girls in MEXICO for the same money that girl is spending getting care in the US.
The US tax system and MY tax money (I can almost guarantee I pay as much or more than you do) is NOT there to make you feel like a better person.

Well, lucky for us there's only a limited supply of Donald Trumps... but there's a near inexhaustible supply of poor people in the third world who would love (FREE, tax payer funded!) modern American medical care.

Per the issue, there's a limit to what law enforcement should be able to do. They were trying to keep her hospital door open so they could "keep an eye on her." It wasn't stated in the NPR article, but I've heard her ambulance was stopped so they could checker her immigration status; an ambulance should be allowed to go through quickly.
I also saw a story today where ICE agents entered private property without a warrant to check people's immigration status. When asked to leave, they refused.
Are we really ok with law enforcement behaving in this way? I for one am not.

It is YOU who refuses to accept reality.
This family came here BEFORE Trump was elected.
There are MORE is a decrease in illegal immigration AFTER Trump was elected.
I know it is a tough concept for some grasp.

"I thought ICE"
Your problem is thinking.
ICE is there to ENFORCE ALL IMMIGRATION LAWS.
It seems way too many want to cherry pick which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore.

Apparently that's only true if you're a US citizen.

Stories like this solidify my support for universal (and affordable) healthcare.

Yes, it's "terrible" that she was stopped and slated for deportation.... but unelss I see you people setting up a lifetime GoFundMe with annuity to care for this girl while Mexico City has more billionaires that any other city in Latin America.... you need to shut up, sit down, and stop spending other people's money.
A calculation needs to be done by the Trump admin to re-route all US aid to Mexico to the hospitals and social service agencies that take care of the millions and millions and millions of MEXICAN nationals in this country. They like to say they're living on Mexican land anyway? Fine. Let the Mexicans pay for their benefits and healthcare and education.
|
Amen. If you want to know who is paying for her healthcare...I AM! Me and every other hard-working tax-paying Texan!
