Depends on the field. I'm in commercial finance so it was valuable. My son is at University now for mechanical engineering, so it's needed.

Not sure the poll really reflects that matter. Seems rather incomplete in form.

How should we know why they go to college. Maybe you should go to a college campus and hand out surveys. Maybe it's all things at once.

Yeah it's almost like some folks feel doctors, engineers and scientists are just dropped from the STEM tree or something, lol.

Build my network.
Nothing more

My sister went to college for a potential husband

We both already knew we'd work for family anyway, so high paying jobs is not our goal. Well, she ended up with a loser, I love military men, so it looks like college is a waste of time for both of us. I did have a lot of fun though, so no regrets.

Honestly, aside from the chicks...this.

Going back to get my master's was pretty much a way to connect with a few folks who I knew would be useful to me. And they were.

So yes, build the network...but also the chicks. Don't forget the chicks.

I think many young people go because they feel it's the thing to do when you're done with high school. They were raised being told they'd go to college and they don't give it a second thought.
