What are most people going to college for these days? Is it to learn how to do something that they think they are inclined to do better? Is it to make the world a better place for everyone? Is it because there are no decent jobs available to them without a degree? Is it just to make more money regardless of the effect that their career has on others and their own lives?
Are colleges and universities teaching people valuable things that are making the world more hospitable for everyone or they teaching people things that are creating a larger rat race exponentially regardless of the long term effects?
What are some good examples of useful degrees that people are getting and the jobs that result from them?
College is about learning how to think critically and deal with people who don't think like we do. Most colleges still provide this service. My university didn't teach me how to do my first job. My employer's training program did that. I wouldn't have been hired, however, if I didn't graduate.
The degree opens doors that are closed without it. Degrees in some majors should be printed on toilet paper, because that is all they are worth.
