I watched the game last night but didn't notice it.
In the old days no one in the world would notice that instant. The media is obsessed with race because it is good for the ratings. Lastly, I don't think Guriel ( a Cuban) thinks he is superior to Japanese people. So his gesture was not likely racist, but simply a stupid move.
I don't think he is a racist for making fun of his eyes. That person does have asian eyes. just saying.
Some people like to make fun of other people's looks. It is poor taste and childish, but I wouldn't call that racism. Plus, he is pretty darn ugly (look at that hair) So there.
Why are there quotation marks around the racist gesture in the title. It IS a racist gesture, no matter how the "PC snowflakes run amok" brigade here want to spin it. But it wasn't done by a white player against a black player so no harm no foul.
By the way, it appears common in Latin American communities to mock Asians in this way, and the term Chino/China/chinita is a phrase you will hear often in regards to Asians. I can assure you that these terms aren't always used as an 'affectionate' one.
And the Hispanics at work call the blacks "negrittos". Yes, it's racist, but the blacks don't mind. I guess as long as it's not white people doing that, it's not bad racism.
The Dodgers are in desperate need of a spark, I hope this provides it.
