Maybe the ad hit a nerve because it rightly called out the GOP for decades of playing footsie with white nationalists? I'm glad someone called them out on it.

The right-wing mantra is to attack every minority group and then act shocked and offended when those groups fight back. Give me a break.

By using that same logic, shall we fault Democrats for playing footsie with MS-13 and other gangs of illegal aliens?

And yet history doesn’t back up your claim. This may not sit well with you, but the democrat party is the party of slavery, segregation, and racism. The left can white wash history, but that is your party.

Good job Virginia! Nothing good comes from fear and hate. Dems and Independents must continue to vote in non-presidential elections, Republicans are historically much better voters than us.

Yup, good job Virginia. You voted a kook to run your state. I hope your state, property, and sales taxes go through the roof. Us patriots can find states where there is still liberty.

It was. That began to change in the 1920s, when the Al Smith faction of the Dems challenged the pro-KKK faction - and the Repubs, running against Catholic Al Smith, picked up southern white protestant support. Under FDR the black vote was competitive between the two parties, as traditional black loyalty to the GOP was offset by the draw of the new deal - while GOP appeal to white southerners was mostly confined to upper class people fearful of the New Deal - FDR remained broadly friendly to Southern regional economic interests (he put a lot of military bases in the South).

Things really began to shift when Truman integrated the military, and in 1948 when the Dems passed a pro civil rights platform at their convention - at this point both national parties were pro civil rights. The deep south broke with the Dems and supported a States Rights party opposed to civil rights. Both white southerners and blacks were courted by both national parties in the elections in 1952, 1956, and 1960. In the 1964 election however, the GOP opposed the new civil rights legislation, and white southerners shifted to them, while blacks shifted to the Dems. This pattern has continued and been reinforced over the years.
