A merit based immigration system in US would mostly restrict Mexicans.

Mexicans by far account the largest percent of immigrants each year, legal or illegal. Under a merit system, labors, janitors and other Mexican professions with low pay, low education and language proficiency problem would be difficult to secure a path to citizenship.

This is consistent with Trump's campaign promises. He wants to restrict Muslims, and also Mexicans.

Why? I think our annual quotas should be decreased at least until we have this whole immigration, illegal immigration, refugee mess straightened out.

And the fashion industry IS an industry, regardless of one's personal opinion about its importance.
As a matter of fact, a merit based system will benefit men more than women. Such a system (e.g. the one in Canada) scores candidates based on age, education, work experience and profession. Men have an edge over women on average, especially for those from certain developing countries.

That being said, women from developing countries are MUCH more likely to marry an American citizen than the other way round, so they have an edge on family based immigration.

Simple question for "progressives": how come whites are the only people not allowed to have their own country?

*spare me the US multi-racial crap btw, this country was 90%+ white from its founding up until the 1960's (check census figures if your liberal high school teacher or trust fund college professer tells you I'm lying) - that's when the liberals in the US and Europe decided that white people, despite creating the most advanced societies in the world, somehow needed "diversity."

Can you name all these countries that only allow citizenship if one’s skin is of a certain color?

Since when did college professor become the chosen profession among trust fund babies?
