We should not take down King's monuments. Why do people think good leaders have to be saints? NO person is all good! MLK was human, just as flawed as anyone else, but he did extraordinary things that made our country a better country for all of us. He was an amazing man in spite of his flaws just like our founders. Martin Luther King deserves his monuments and, by their display, our respect for his work and sacrifice for generations to come.

I believe he did some good things too as you mentioned as a Christian Leader. A hypocrite he was, yes but some listened to his preach of goodness.
I had heard this through the grapevine from a former FBI agent neighbor when I was a kid. So no surprise from me at all.

He did good things and he paid the ultimate price for them. For that he deserves the statues and the day.

His personal life was probably not anymore noble than the Hollywood people getting busted the past few weeks.

Next thing you are going to tell me is he wasn’t a ****ing communist.

He was and is worshipped as a god in America.

He brought America one step closer to the common good group rights utopia.

He didn’t use his Christianity to justify hate in the way that the modern variety does.

He used his faith to show the people "we need to love each other, as Christ instructs us to do. Racism and bigotry are not Godly ways to be. We need to do better". His faith was about "we should never hate".

Dr King had big clay feet. He had affairs, plagiarized portions of his doctoral thesis, and who knows what else. But to me, his worst crime was spreading a false theology to his own people....Christianity. This helped set the stage for the fleecing of African Americans of billions on top of billions of dollars over the last century with ridiculous notions of pie in the sky theories that we should’ve dumped after slavery.

All that aside, he was a brave man that did all he could to help his people despite his flaws.

So...if we’re to dump his statues over his flaws, fine. But only AFTER monuments To Kennedy, Dulles, Hoover, and other imperfect Americans come down.

So that “clear lack of discussion” you’re talkikg about isn’t lacking at all. I bit. Wanna bite back? I relish the discussion. Dr King is the least.

Pulling down any statue that is currently up is stupid to me. It's like some stupid attempt to whitewash history. We NEED to keep things in perspective and need to remember things. Statues can help do that for us. We repeat mistakes of history if we don't keep our history in memory......

I have no personal feelings toward MLK, Jr. or most of the people whose statues are being destroyed but statue destroyers need to realize all people do bad and good things. I am sure none of the statues were because of the bad the subject of the statue did. Maybe they need to grow up.

I heard rumors the FBI investigated MLK, Jr. for being a communist?? That would concern me more than his personal life. Dig deep enough and most everybody is less than an angel.

Comeon. This is a classical Hoover smear. That SOB put these things together to discredit those of whom he did not approve.

The big accusation was that King was a hard core Communist which was utter Bull Sh#t. Made up out of whole cloth.

And then just to seal it up they throw in the salacious stuff. I believe it is known that King was no saint...but neither was he a public pervert as implied by the FBI.

The real thing that come out of all this is whether we should have an organization like the FBI.
