So I just heard on Fox that the Air Force did not submit the proper paperwork to the FBI regarding the shooter's criminal info so this likely had a hand in his passing a NICS check. Nice.
Wow.........you would think they could automate that in a way it wouldn't be subject to human error. I would hate to be the person who screwed that up.
Guns are a very old part of this nations culture, to us rural people this is not negotiable. We simply are not willing to give them up and no one can make us. The constitution is on our side.......PERIOD. I hate to be so blunt but that is the truth of how most rural gun owners feel.
I thought it was bad to hint that people cling to their guns?
WASHINGTON—The Air Force has launched a review of how the Service handled the criminal records of former Airman Devin P. Kelley following his 2012 domestic violence conviction.
Kelley was convicted by a general court-martial on two charges of domestic assault against his wife and step-son under Article 128 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He then served 12-months in confinement at Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar in California before being released with a Bad Conduct Discharge in 2014. He was also reduced in grade to E-1. Federal law prohibited him from buying or possessing firearms after this conviction.
Initial information indicates that Kelley’s domestic violence offense was not entered into the National Criminal Information Center database by the Holloman Air Force Base Office of Special Investigations.
Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein directed a complete review of the Kelley case by the Air Force
Office of the Inspector General. The Service will also conduct a comprehensive review of Air Force databases to ensure records in other cases have been reported correctly. The Air Force has also requested that the Department of Defense Inspector General review records and procedures across the Department of Defense.
Was this a one-off or does the AF not report anything to the Federal Database?
The Charleston Church shooter was able to acquire a firearm because it had timed out. The gymnastics required to communicate between the Fed, state, county and individual Police stations is insanity because information is maintained at the local levels, often in hard copy form.
The process should be streamlined and the amount of time to perform a background check should be expanded. If someone needs a firearm so bad they cannot wait a few weeks, perhaps it best if they are prevented from acquiring the firearm. There is no need to maintain serious thousands of mini databsases when one national one would be cheaper and more efficient.
"I didn't know that the killings in Las Vegas and Texas were committed by bats or punches."
You missed the point, or ignored it on purpose, that bats and other blunt objects kill MORE people ANNUALLY then rifles of ALL sorts.
When a man kills 58 and wounds 500 in fifteen minutes from 1200 feet with a bat, I will absolutely call for bat control. Until then, you've made the world's worst point.

The NICS system is a national one and every FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder that sells weapons must use it. It is a requirement that the armed services input criminal outcomes into it/report it to the FBI.
You keep telling yourself that's how it would work. Because I government that wants to disarm the citizens would never overrule the note.
I can't really argue with someone who truly believes in imminent government takeover so...
