Hey genius, "paying taxes" doesn't mean only income tax. Puerto Ricans pay for white people's Social Security and Medicare benefits. You can't learn anything by only staring at the cigarette carton in your shirt pocket . Speaking of Medicare in PR, benefits are reduced, yet PRs pay the full fare.
Hey "genius" the OP clearly stated federal INCOME taxes.
Yes but as a territory their laws are administered by congress. They would not have so many issues - bad credit, bad debt, crippling interest payments, - if they could do what any US corp can and declare bankruptcy (like Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino).
I hear that on a per capita basis the debt of PR is way smaller than the 20 trillion debt of the USA.
A bit harsh, but an accurate demonstration of ignorance of others in this thread.
Personally, I think we need PR to either be a free country of join us as the 51st state. And it's a decision we should make once we are finished helping them rebuild.
Just as DC will never be a state PR will never be a state. This could provide two extra left senators. The assumption is that DC would get two extremely liberal senators. With PR it is possible they would also elect Dem senators. PR would get more legislators in the house that 28 states. That is power and no one gives power away.
If the goal is to cut out freeloaders, can we please get rid of all of the Republican-ran states that consume way more federal money than they contribute?
So are you just concerned with punishing people that don't align with you politically, or disagree with your opinions?

The people on the right seem to be, I seem to recall several threads that have said states should be extorted into voting Republican with pork projects
You're lying again. They pay federal payroll (social security/medicaid) taxes, business taxes, among other things.

They don’t pay personal income tax. Quit being obtuse.

No taxation without representation; PR doesn't have any representatives or senators in Congress, so therefore isn't obliged to pay income tax. Make them a state and it's a different story
