How do you know it is rare? The NRA publishes legitimate, verifiable instances of bad guys being stopped by law abiding gun owners every month in "American Rifleman". There are hundreds of examples of this each year. However, most go unreported, as the perp normally flees at the site of a gun.

Canadians, Australians, Kiwis, the Swiss, et al may well disagree.

Liberals who criticized Trump for "politicizing" a tragedy are now politicizing the Church shooting:

A liberal gun paradox

The founding fathers wanted a nation where the people would be equally armed as the Govt, it was their best defense against tyranny getting a foothold, so its not that strange Govt would seek to disarm public under the guise of 'security'

Just look at some of the recent comments, they said the church shooter may be involved with a militia group..well duh, that would be a good thing, the state militias are the ones who are supposed to monitor the govt and decide if the people need to remove them from power.

I really think had many people today, been alive at the time of the american revolution, they would have actually sided with England over their fellow citizens, I believe they had a name for people like this too.

No wonder America is so violent, if 13.8% of the population murder people - I think this might be an example of liars using statistics.

Which should not be the case based on pro-gun talking points. We should be the safest in the world with so many people owning guns.

Why the contradiction?
We have laws that do not allow in some states, the right to defend life and property with impunity. Some states it is a duty to retreat.
Others it is stand your ground no duty to retreat.

We have gun free zones soft target rich environments. Schools Churches etc.

We have a justice system that prosecutes those who act in defense. Which removes incentive for defending life and liberty.

We also have an issue with police not being everywhere at every single minute of the day. That is not their fault at all.

Gun deaths of women and children? Men don't count?
Firearms safety is the end users sole responsibility. If you are irresponsible whether male, or female, or set yourself up for a Darwin Parenting Award that is the end users issue inside the private home.

School shootings kids dying, Arm teachers. Instead of putting students belly down on the floor and locking the door, teacher carries concealed and tells students to plug their ears. When the scumbag comes trying to break the glass in the classroom door, teacher puts the would be attacker down. But relying on a sign and metal detector will surely work

Thats like Putting a No Wolves allow sign in a meadow full of sheep.

Guns are political in this country.

I don't criticize Trump for politicizing a gun shooting, many politicians do that.

I criticize him for giving lukewarm non passionate responses when the killer is White or non Muslim.

Ya think? How about 9/11, Pearl harbor, battle of Guam 1941, battle of Guam 1944, etc.; but you don't mention the attacks from within, like the Oklahoma City bombing....Thinking you are the safest country is a joke.
