"The Republican-led Senate approved the bills in a series of 26-11 and 25-12 votes along party lines. Sen. Marty Knollenberg of Troy was the only Republican to vote no — on Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof’s bill to allow guns in currently gun-free zones, including bars, arenas, stadiums, hospitals and casinos, at the discretion of the private property owner."
Why not just pass a law saying that if anyone wants to make a place a "gun free" zone, then he (or they if it's a city council or whatever) must demonstrate financial responsibility for taking care of anybody harmed in a criminal act in that area, for which they have forbidden the law-abiding citizens to defend themselves?
And perhaps those legislators (including the mayor or governor or whoever signed it into law)should also be held criminally liable as accomplices, if and when someone brings a gun into such a place and uses it... since the criminals would be taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the legislators to assault, rob, and kill victims with no fear of any of them being able to defend themselves?
Then let the legislators create all the "gun free" zones they want... knowing it's their ass in a sling if criminals do what criminals so often do in that zone, since the legislators are solely responsible for disarming the victims. Might the legislators' attitudes change?
So in MI I don't have any control over my own property?
Not sure how that works, did not get many real Details in the article. I do believe a person should be able to control what is done on their own property, not sure how one can circumvent that right legally, so we shall see.
So in MI I don't have any control over my own property?
It's up to private property owners.
An owner of a private business may continue to choose to operate as a GFZ. Typically, privates establishments that chose to operate as GFZs do not scan, wand or search.
The article included bars. What could go wrong?
Property and business insurers will weigh in.
Why are state, county and municipal properties/ courts not included in this ?
