The GOP thinks they are being very clever by removing state and local income taxes as a deduction because blue states tend to have a higher income tax. I live in a blue state with no income tax so I don't care but there are plenty of red states with income tax and plenty of purple states with income taxes. The wealthy gave a lot of money to the GOP to reduce their taxes and the GOP wants that money faucet to continue.

If anyone thinks red states won't be hit by this, here is the income taxes by state:

If the GOP force their blue state Republicans to support this, they will likely lose those Republicans in blue states, so they've got that going for them. The GOP will be the party representing the south and flyover country.

If this passes (which it won’t) it will be the end of the Republicans for 2018. Even I will vote 3rd party down the ballot lol and if no 3rd party I won’t vote. This tax bill is a disgrace. A slap in the face to hardworking Americans.

It's only part of the bill and the tax reductions elsewhere may offset it, if you live in a state with really high taxes (e.g. California)that is less likely.

Let me ask you something, why should someone in California making the exact same thing as you pay less in federal income tax? How do you justify that? Your partisan blinders must be as thick as brick, anybody reasonable can see it unfairly taxes people in lower tax states.

They are just trying to appease low income states that attribute almost nothing to federal spending

Yet once again penalize cities that keep America afloat

Aka trying to give their base an extra $1400 a year to spend on opioids

I live in a blue state with NO income tax. This will not affect me. But blue states have been subsidizing red states for decades and red states have never complained about that. They are just fine with sucking up all the federal dollars. Here are the states most federally dependent:

https://wallethub.com/edu/states-mos...vernment/2700/

And then we look at how the vote in blue states counts for less, while the blue states contribute more federally than red states:

For complicated reasons — some of which have to do with rural poverty, some of which have to do with the basic physics of supporting infrastructure in low-density regions — a disproportionate amount of per capita federal spending and benefits now flow down to the low-density states. According to a study by the Tax Foundation conducted several years ago, for every dollar New Jersey pays in federal taxes, it receives 61 cents in benefits and other federal spending. For the same dollar of taxes Wyoming spends, it gets $1.11 back.

Good, why should high tax states be able to continue their abusive tax practices at the expense of Federal revenues?

It’s a fact that high tax states get less dollars back than states like Mississippi, Kentucky etc even with the so called abusive tax practices.

We pay more in taxes than MOST of this country

Conversely, why should low tax states receive more money than they put into federal taxes?

Same people pay less for milk, less for houses, less for gas, less for... really? It all works out in the end.
