If we really care about people, we will invest in creating economic opportunities and cutting these people off.
But you have completely failed in providing examples where an even more callous dog-eat-dog style society as seen in Latin America actually is beneficial for the poor.

All concentrated power over others has the potential to be abused. The best economic and governmental system will always have the lowest amounts of concentrated power throughout it.

If you replace one form of concentrated power with another, then you are not really solving the problem of the abuse of power. All power is easily corruptible.

The only real power there should be is the power over yourself and the power to make intelligent and aware choices that positively effect yourself, your family and others.

When mankind can evolve to not use concentrated power over others and not let the concentrated abuse of power adversely effect them then most of the world's problems will be solved. Until then concentrated power of all kinds will continue to plague the human race.

All of you seem to be arguing about which type of power structure is the best but fail to see that power structures of all kinds have always been the problem. You cant fix the problem one power structure has created with a different power structure in a sustainable way.

Once again, you've been shown what the "poor" do with money confiscated from the rich.

Why on earth would we be trying to benefit them more?

They are poor because of who they are and what they do. Not because the rich are rich.

If you enjoy banging your head against a brick wall and getting no where, don't force others to join you.

This would be true if one were to conveniently gloss over the fact that the middle class and “the poors” are going to be subsidizing these tax cuts for the rich.

I think you're attempting to compare our welfare system to that of some European countries. You have probably gone to Europe and thought there weren't any poor people in your view in the inner cities. Well, I'll tell you, there are many more poor people in Europe than there are in the US. The only difference is the way they are measured. Poor people in Europe have much less of a chance of getting ahead than the so called poor in America.

Are you serious? You actually want MUCH higher income taxes like in Europe on the rich?
The "rich" and the middle class should both be in the top tax rate bracket, like they are in the countries in
the comparison chart I posted. What's your problem with that? The US middle class earns MORE than Sweden's middle class, and Swedes have no problem with being placed in the top tax rate bracket AND paying a 25% VAT tax on top of that.

45% of Americans pay no federal income tax, while the rich pay millions and million (as individuals). But somehow the "poor" (who pay nothing, but take a lot) are subsidizing the rich?

And the middle class are subsidizing the poor, just like the rich do, only a lot less so.

I've posted the exact same thing. And guess what? The US left whines, complains, and throws a temper tantrum if the US middle class is asked to pay the top marginal tax rate like they do in Europe.

My family grew up in the very bottom, picking cotton to get by, and most of them have arisen to become productive people. My grandparents were what wold people today would call, white trash alcoholics. Yet, their children have all come out of that and made their own way. As a member of this representative grandchild, I have gone on to live around the world and marry a minority person and be in a position to have an income above $100,000 per year and have just bought a second home. I don't accept the liberal picture of things.

Interesting premise and one I think has merit. Just look at the mentality of so many people here who think the wealthy are dishonest, corrupt, and 'don't work as hard as the people making terrible wages and making them rich.' It's discrimination of the wealthy that I think is brought on by envy and self-pity.

If they would put the same energy into bettering their own lives that they put into resenting others, they'd have little to complain about.
