Baton Rouge man whose rape conviction was overturned to taste freedom after nearly 46 years behind bars | Courts | theadvocate.com

Anderson tossed out Jones' 1974 rape conviction on Oct. 31, ruling that the state withheld "highly favorable" evidence from the defense. That evidence, the judge said, probably would have resulted in a different outcome at his trial.

Another reason for me to not argue crime rates.

edit:
Another reason for me to not argue black crime rates.

Black conviction rates match crime victimization surveys.

Some liberals on CD would say he deserved it, because one accusation was enough.

The Innocence Project does very very good work. And it's very necessary work in a state like Louisiana, which today has one of the weakest and most under-financed group of public defenders in the nation, and I can't imagine it was much better in 1974. (I'm assuming he had a public defender 'cause if he'd had a Perry Mason/Johnnie Cochran/F. Lee Bailey level lawyer he never would have gone to jail).

At any rate, it's good to see justice done. I don't mind locking up rapists, as long as they lock up the right ones. Welcome home Mr. Jones, and God bless!

Poor Black defendants and poor people in general get railroaded quite often.

The poor go to jail for crimes they didn't commit while the rich, powerful and famous get away with murder, literally

in this case justice has not been done. where does this guy go to get his reputation back? where does he go to get his life back? what contributions to society have been lost forever because of a wrongful conviction?

I would bet the great majority of innocent black inmates are doing time in place of another black man. Black crime rates are atrocious. Let’s address the causes instead of ignoring the problem.

Meanwhile a student at Stanford got 10 months for rape. Pays to be white, from a " comfortable" family with connections.

That false claim doesn't get any truer by repetition.

Indeed.

This is not justice. The majority of a man's life has been taken from him, and apparently intentionally so even though the prosecutor knew he likely wasn't the guy.

And what will he get out of this? Maybe an "oops, our bad, sorry about taking your life for no good reason."
