Regulatory capture: when agencies created to protect public interests are hijacked by corporations.
The FCC is doing exactly those things it was created to prevent, including repealing net neutrality. Same for the EPA.
Conservatives campaign on "deregulation" but never mention why said regulations were deemed prudent or necessary in the first place. The average citizen has little to no protection from blatant unchecked abuses of power.

Regulatory capture is a form of government failure that occurs when a regulatory agency, created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or political concerns of special interest groups that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating.
Good god this is going to backfire spectacularly in an epic fashion for the GOP and the American public. Just wait until this happens and guess how much outrage there will be:
It is going to absolutely INFURIATE a loooooooooooooooooooooot of people. The decision for allowing this to happen is going to come in about the next 3-4 weeks.

The right has been wanting this for years. They want to build a national "local" news network to spread propaganda.
Sinclair is big and does a good job distributing propaganda, but they only hit about 40% of homes. When this goes through, they'll be able to get a lot more.
The Sinclair affiliate station in my region is facing a lot of pushback from viewers. They are required to run Sinclair propaganda pieces. Staff member morale is said to be low given these pieces do not go over well in this area and they have no choice in the matter but to run them. Many viewers are abandoning the station as they feel it can no longer be trusted for news.
Sinclair makes Faux news look like a DNC meeting. We just got one here and I love how the 'local' news now has a terrorism desk from which we get a daily, breathless report on how dangerous the world is.
Ajit pai should be forced out for conflict of interest especially considering he used to work for Verizon. I how that If it does go through I seriously hope George Soros buys fox news

hard to say if you are right i see it managed better in some nations where the incoming gov does not get to replace everyone with politically motivated people.
I believe a big part of the problem is really lobbyists and corps being allowed to buy elections. If we reduced or ended the buying of politicians the FCC might work a lot better.
Pai has purposely weakened the FCC and is openly catering to industry over consumers. Pai will most certainly be seeking his reward in the form seats on boards with backdated options. He sold out rural americans already. and he is working to undermine democracy by allowing one corp to have access to 75% of the pop..
