A nurse supervisor is in trouble after she said that they performed CPR on a dying navy vet when the cam shows them standing around laughing. I think the care was sub-par, but I don't fault the "laughing."
So, we can figure that this may happen routinely and was only caught because of the video camera was installed because abuse/neglect was feared in the first place.
It is sad how people who can't fend for themselves are treated. I have an adult son with Down syndrome who is non-verbal and even with day programs, now he is in none, the things that happen at the hands of caregivers can just be unbelieveable.
They talk about these caregivers not making enough money, well, does that make them not have compassion? I don't think even paid better it would bring in people that actually have compassion.
I have had so many people in the field of developmental disabilities tell me "Well, you can't expect them to give your son the same care you would." but I do, because if I were taking care of their child, I would give them the same care I would give my own.
None of this computes to me. How people can be so cold and detached.
As we know, our elderly are no longer valued as in days past. I always enjoy the company of someone in their 80s, the stories they have............. I could not stand by and let them die without trying to give them a few more days of life.
Often veterans have VA benefits that pay for the nursing home care that they receive. Is it a good use of funds to pay a business and then have them laughing when the patient dies from neglect ? VA benefits are paid from taxes. So there is that.
Just so sad, can you imagine going-out like that!??!?!?!?
RIP!
