Cheney knows he can do what he pleases and he doesn't have to please American's.
Neither the Senate nor Congress can seem to stop Bush/Cheney from doing what they want.

Was there some policy being expressed here ?
Or just raising a finger in the air and doing what he damn well pleased?

Principle? Murder is a principle for murderers. Torture is a principle for torturers. Lying is a principle for liars. I can't imagine what "principle" LNTT_Vacationer is talking about. It's probably on the list I started. Hell, it's probably all of them and more.
To say that an elected leader should not pay attention to polls, which I interpret to mean that the views and wishes of those who elected him/her are to be ignored, then what good is the election? If, on the other hand, we go with these "principles" and allow an elected leader to do what they think is right despite our objections, then that same leader should be held accountable for the consequences. Unfortunately, in our case, the elected leaders know that the hardship and blame will fall not on them, but on the people they ignored. The people will be the ones to suffer, to pay the bill, to be the object of worldwide anger. All while the elected leaders get to ride off into the sunset to retire to their Argentine ranches.

To add to mhouse2001's post..the next President will inherit a huge amount of debt on this country, an economic crisis and who knows what else will fall apart before the election while Bush/Cheney sail off to retirement.

I love "tough" guys like Dick...couldn't be bothered to fight when he was needed but has no problem arguing his case for sending EVERYONE else to do the dirty work.
He and the rest of his gang of thugs have their own special place in hell waiting for them.

Surrenderists are really special breed. . . . you have thousands who believe in the cause enough to actually sign up and risk their lives, they believe they are winning and making a difference, a majority of their countrymen think we're winning. . . . but still the surrenderist keeps marching forward with the white flag, hiding behind a keyboard, telling those who have put their lives on the line for what they believe to quit; rationalizing by noting that most answering their phone in the middle of dinner don't like what they see on TV in the comfort of their den. Thankfully some of our leaders and Cheney are men of principle; not cowering on the couch with a phone, thumb in mouth waiting for the pollster to call.

Thankfully? Principle?
Here's what one of your allegedly principled men had to say about the ringleader behind the muders of thosands of Americans:
"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care"
G W Bush
Just WHAT principle does that surly, uncaring attitude represent and WHY should anyone other than bin Laden be thankful for it?
