Most folks like the OP likely reaped the benefits of collectivist, social institutions and infrastructure.
Early on I noted that we do NOT practice Capitalism. I get countered with statements that I am crazy and that there are no perfect systems but in a way that is the point.
I asked for those who counter my positions to further explain but it never happens. The argument always boils down to how much Socialism you prefer, not that you don't support Socialism.
In theory I would support true Capitalism. No Fed to manipulate the money supply. No bailing out failed businesses. No tax breaks to send jobs overseas.
People argue, well, I do not support that either. It doesn't matter, that is our system and in the end, yes they do. Those who claim they don't can never actually explain how their system would actually work outside of going back to the 19th century which we are not going to do.
I don't think most liberals want a system that extreme. All we ask is for generally capitalist system with reasonable regulations on businesses (so that they can't completely screw customers or surrounding populations over, like this: 'Plastic rice' seized in Nigeria - BBC News) and some sort of basic social safety net so that a minimum wage employee isn't absolutely doomed if they get sick or injured.
Both Corporations and Government is run by people and when people are given too much power abuse it. Corporations pay lawyers, many politicians are lawyers. Corporations pay lawyers to find ways around the law, politicians make laws.

Right. Extreme cases do not make for the norm. On a rare occasion is someone truly held accountable for not paying their taxes? On a rare occasion, yeah. On any given day there are people making millions and millions of dollars and paying no taxes on that money.
Go to flea market and there is no one with a gun at the exit making people pay taxes on the money they made. Most antique stores do not provide tax info. People flip cars and never pay taxes on the profits.
Does a Willie Nelson who pays next to nothing for years and years on millions of dollars eventually get called on it? Yeah, but that is rare.
Our governor owes millions in back taxes. No one is holding a gun to his head. (I wish they would). Warren Buffett has owed millions and millions for decades. He stands next to the president with absolutely no worry that a gun will be held to his head.
People want to pretend that they can build multi million dollar bridges on their own when they can not.

I condemn those who claim that they do not support Socialist programs in any form but Petch is right also in that there are some who absolutely refuse to condemn and hold accountable a corrupt government.

Lobbyist works for the corporation not the people its not democratic because its pay to play it favors the wealthy and business interests. You can vote out politicians big corporations you are stuck with.
