No misnomer, LBJ sent the first combat troops, a considerable expansion of the advisory programs of DDE and JFK. the war is on him and I have yet to hear any credible word that he considered Vietnam a threat to the US, only that he feared how failing to act would impact his image, he was afraid of appearing soft on those COMMIERS!
We still pretend we are not sending combat troops when we send "advisers". It's these "advisers" that get us involved. Eisenhower did that even after warning us against doing just that.
And what do you imagine we'll accomplish there that hasn't been done in 16 years?
Read the OP... read post 27 and 28. The general (post 27 and 28) specifically said - upon being asked - that the rule changes in August has given them room to operate that was not there before. Go back and read the link.

We have been bombing anything that moves for a very long time there. How do you think the reports about the weddings, hospitals etc being blown up came from?
At this point - as the general said - the Afghans want our help. 87% wants to remove the Taliban. Why? The general explains...
In September, we saw how their extensive casualties forced their corrupt leadership to direct a stop of combat operations and a return to high-profile attacks, kidnappings for ransom, and assassinations. These are heinous acts of violence that bring attention to their group and indiscriminately target the Afghan people, resulting in unimaginable suffering.
The people understand it is best to remove the Taliban, because they will turn on the people if it is necessary for their (the Taliban's) survival.
Opium... cash crop... give me a break...
Opium leads to dead Americans as well - yet you consider it a cash crop for your buddies.
So. Too bad.

We held ourselves back for years under the old rules of engagement. Did you read that from the general? We aren't doing that now.
Sunk Cost Fallacy nonsense. Just a little more time, aye?
New rules of engagement is all we needed to win!!!

And it's still LBJ who bears the responsibility, as the new guy in the WH he had every opportunity to reverse DDE's/JFK's advisor programs but chose to screw the pooch instead. I can only hope he, McNamara, and Nixon share a particularly nasty circle of hell.

What I don't see is HOW continuing a 16 year old war is wise while we essentially kiss the ass of corporations like McKesson who are every bit as responsible for the current opioid problem in America as poppy growers in Afghanistan are. If the poppy growers had as strong ($$$) a lobby as BigPharma you could safely bet dollars to donuts their farms would go unmolested as long as their checks cleared.
And in HOW many of our asinine wars of choice have we heard glowing reports from generals about just how great things were going, only to learn later it was all PR BS? Screw Afghanistan, there's Americans who need help too.

He bears responsibility for his decisions and his actions and it seemed he paid a fairly high price for those actions and decisions. He is not the one that got us involved though.

He IS the one to first dispatch combat troops to S Vietnam.
Until I see a Pentagon history of the Vietnam War saying it started prior to 1965, there's no other answer.
Since when were we the world's police force now wasting tax payer dollars on bombing opium fields?
President Trump, please to bring all our troops home and stop wasting tax payer dollars that could be used to feed and house Americans.
Don't listen to him, Prez;
You're doing a great job while minimizing the risk to American people.
We all understand that without money these terrorist groups amount to nothing but a bunch of disgruntled beggars sitting around campfires in the desert, and that's good for America - every bit as good as arresting a well equipped terrorist in Time Square.
We know that with the new tax schedules and the New America that attracts businesses from all over the world, We The People will be able to feed and house ourselves and in doing so will have pride of our own accomplishments instead of becoming helpless beggars living in our government provided homes.
Best Regards,
Listener
