I support your right to hunt but there are all sorts of things wrong with what he did and he most certainly should have charges filed against him and a part of his sentence should be to completely ban him from owning a gun again.
There is almost no one (there is always an exception) who would disagree with that.
I don't know how you can confuse a person at 200 yards with a deer at 200 yards...They do not look anything similar with either Iron sights or scope...
Not sure how you can confuse a person for a deer. Right now would be Buck season for me back in NY... So unless that woman was wearing antlers and had an ass that stuck out 4 feet behind her with white toilet paper hanging out... there is no way possible to confuse a woman for a buck... No way...
Even in dusk settings...
<>Just like you choose an appropriate rifle you choose an appropriate pistol. There is no reason not to hunt deer with a pistol vs a rifle or bow and arrow or crossbow, except in states where it's illegal with a crossbow.<>
My late FIL hunted with a similar piece. What's that funny attachment on top?

He had no idea what he was shooting at which is one of the things that make this more than an accident.

Somewhere in here someone posted that it was after legal shooting hours. This time of year an hour after dusk it is dark.
Why? Just determined to prove how little you know about guns? Just like you choose an appropriate rifle you choose an appropriate pistol. There is no reason not to hunt deer with a pistol vs a rifle or bow and arrow or crossbow, except in states where it's illegal with a crossbow.
People don't hunt with pistols like this
More likely something along these lines
A buddy of mine uses a breech action 30-06 pistol. Looks Something like this...
Id hunt with a Glock 20. 10mm will take a deer no problem.
Unless things have changed since I left NY State, in Chautauqua County, deer hunters are limited to using shotguns with slugs. These are not a weapon that is accurate enough to take an ethical, 200 yard shot at a game animal. The shooter (I won't give him the credit of calling him a hunter) should be behind bars.
We need to start holding people accountable for his actions, even when they are "accidents". He is as guilty as some idiot in a car that "didn't see" a motorcyclist or person in a marked cross walk and runs them over.

Most likely, he didn't aim at either a deer or a woman - he aimed at a rustling bush.
