Just an exercise in alternate history here--how likely was an invasion of Iraq to happen under a Gore presidency? It seems pretty likely that 9/11 or something like it would have occurred under the Gore presidency, but do you think it would have expanded to an additional war in Iraq under Gore?

Of course it wouldn't. Do you really think Pres. Gore would have ordered an invasion of Iraq under completely false pretenses and caused the greatest foreign policy disaster in U.S. history?

Nope. Not a chance.

absolutely,

the puppet gore, was gleeful when Clinton signed the regime change of Iraq

and 9/11 was planned while Clinton was in office, wanting gore to be pres.

Gore NEEDED something like that to take away the "empty suit" appearance

First off, you should tell us why you think it should or should not have or some alternative scenario.

Make some sort of statement or claim.

Given the last 30+ years of governmental foreign policy is fairly indistinguishable regardless of R or D....I don't know.

What are you even talking about The reality is there would have never been an Iraq war under Gore.

No war under Gore. But we'd have seen much more terrorism here in the US with thousands more American fatalities (no Department of Homeland Security, no GITMO, no real military response). Turns out that destroying the Middle East was necessary.

No, unless Gore had for some reason, surrounded himself with Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz

Oh yea, would have happened. The neocons were pushing for it. Gore, being mentored by the neocon Clinton, would have walked which ever direction they wanted him to.

9/11 wouldn't have happened if Gore was in office. Let's remember the roots of the 9/11 attack: It all goes back to the earlier Gulf War after the Kuwait invasion. Bush Sr. let US troops land in and occupy Saudi Arabia, and what the Muslims considered holy ground (Mecca, etc.) Muslims were offended by this. Years later, when Bush Jr. comes into office, the Muslims were again reminded of what the other Bush did, and what they considered the sacrilege of their holy land being poisoned. To them it was like Bush Sr. was back in power. That's why they were... pissed...and wanted revenge. As we found out, the planning for the attack started right after Bush Jr. was elected president, with it carried out 10 months later.

Wrong. 911 was planned in 1996, approved by bin Laden in December, 1998.
