Trump has e-verify in his 2018 budget so you were saying? WTH does big or small government have to do with enforcing any of our laws?

Especially in the construction industry where kids out of high school used to be able to go to learn a trade and support their family.

However, to be fair, this has been going on for a while now. Chipotle was busted for it as I recall.

The penalties are pretty lax. That's what needs attention.
To be fair, with all the fraud going on, and the forged documentation illegals are using, it's not exactly easy for an employer to determine a person's actual immigration status.

Add to this, the fertile ground created for lawsuits, if an employer was actively challenging the immigration status of job applicants.

If the libs have their way, there will be no jobs for high school teens, if every single job must pay a living wage, to support raising a family with a couple of children.

Based on what I could tell from the article, the bakery used a jobs-placement company to get their workers. The company was under federal audit for their practices and it appears this was the catalyst for the bust. So Cloverhill Bakery probably entrusted the hiring company to do the proper checks and they didn't. As they were under audit, there must have been bigger issues with them.

Too many businesses get away with this. They know the workers are illegal from these outsourced deals.

I'm sure some employers actively recruit illegals.

Other employers may suspect that some of their workers could be illegal, but don't want to go thru the trouble and expense to find out.

Still others are probably completely clueless, and may even be afraid to risk a lawsuit or be called a racist, if they attempt to verify their perspective employees legal immigration status.

All they need is documents, has anyone been hired lately. They ask for social if not available you need to show a green card.

These companies know exactly what they are doing. What is yet to be said is what are their long term plans giving an increase in workforce expenses. 800 hired at minimum wage, is not enticing for most Americans. That is not a living wage.

These "raids" have been happening for a long time, usually big companies aren't stupid enough to hire a large portion of illegal. Illegal hiring usually happens through small businesses, restaurants in particular off the books.
