I have a 17yo right now. I don’t think she has the life experience necessary to navigate dating a 25yo unless his life experience pretty much matches her.
I don’t find a 25yo more menacing than a 20yo, for example. Depends on the individuals.
Italy is quite different than the US. Teens are treated like adults at age 17.
We wait until age 18. This film could be about an 18yo who met a 25yo on holiday and nobody in the US would much care. Regardless of the sexual orientations or genders of either party.
Actually, I think the author of the linked article would care. I checked around on the site, and it's not exactly LGBT-friendly. The author has an ax to grind, and he's using the current climate regarding sexual abuse and harassment to make his argument seem more relevant. If the younger man was 18, he'd find a different reason to complain.
17 is above the age of consent so, this is NOT "man-boy" as others wish to allege. They are both old enough to make their own decisions. Ridiculous that this is even discussed.

I am glad you are letting the Italian government decide who is a man or boy. What if they decided to lower the age of consent to 12?
I deal with young people at college all the time. Regardless of the law, many of them I would not really consider mature adults yet. There is a noticeable difference in maturity level say between 19/20 year olds and 25+ students. So I am surprised anyone would consider a younger teenager of high school age to be an adult.

I made no reference to the exact ages of the characters in my post -- but to be clear, yes, I am shocked at the casual portrayal of what was apparently the seduction of a teenage male by an older male. (I have not seen the movie and certainly do not intend to do so, which is my right.) However, I would be ALMOST -- but, admittedly not quite as much -- shocked by a movie showing the seduction of a 17-year-old female by her 25-year-old male teacher in a positive light.
I also said nothing even remotely like "What about . . . ?" You have one heck of an imagination, I will give you that, at least!
Oh my yes. Dontcha just love cherry picking and twisting of context? And in the spirit of this movie what about showing a 17 yo old female student seduced by her 25 yo female teacher or vice versa? I have no intention of viewing this movie or one portraying a situation such as I just described either, but I'm sure someone will pick up that flag and run with it soon enough.
Would a movie showing a woman/girl "romance" be as controversial and socially relevant? Gotta wonder if there will ever be any lines that can't be crossed eventually.
Didn’t watch that one or Bareback Mountain, not will I watch this one.
But I'm sure you will watch Trumpback Mountain!
