Cons keep saying that Native Americans don't care that Trump used a ceremony to honor native American veterans to throw jabs at his political opponents. They do care, and they don't like it.

Cons tone deaf as usual in making this about Sen. Warren or that the word "Pocahontas" is not disrespectful. It's about the context. No way this was appropriate in this ceremony.

Trump lacks basic self control expected of an adult, and conservatives apparently do too if this is what they defend as acceptable behavior.

"It was uncalled for," said Marty Thompson, whose great uncle was a Navajo Code Talker. "He can say what he wants when he's out doing his presidential business among his people, but when it comes to honoring veterans or any kind of people, he needs to grow up and quit saying things like that."
Quote:
Michael Smith, a Marine whose father was a Code Talker, said most of the Code Talkers would be skeptical about going to the White House because it could be construed to mean they support a political cause.

"So, why did they go? Why were they there? He's putting them in the Oval Office to say 'You did a good job, and say hi to Pocahontas?'" Smith said. "They should be taken care of as heroes, not as pawns."
Quote:
Michael Nez, whose father helped develop the code based on the Navajo language, said his father would have been upset to hear Trump's Pocahontas comment. But, as other Code Talker relatives said, his father was taught to respect the president as the commander in chief.

"It's too bad he does put his foot in his mouth," Nez said. "Why he does it? I don't know."
Quote:
Helena Begaii said her 94-year-old Navajo Code Talker father, Samuel T. Holiday, declined an invitation to the White House on Monday. She said he would have a better feel for what happened once he reads the newspaper.

"I feel really sad that they didn't get treated with respect," she said.

It would be rude to call someone such a name just because they couldn't make the connection between white supremacist Nazis and white supremacist Trump supporters.

Naturally, they felt disrespected. Trump was disrespectful.

It was bad enough to hold this photo op in front of Andrew "Trail of Tears" Jackson, but to make a crack about "Pocahontas" was way over the line.

This whole deal looks like a call out to his racist base rather than any honest attempt to honor the Navajo Code Talkers.

Listen to the remarks the Navajo man made prior to trump's ignorant utterance. The Navajo man is in his 90s, spoke off the cuff and talked about how his inclusion in a diverse US society helped win WW2.

Americans need to listen to men like him. Not that trash that trump talks.

This is just a another link in Trump's long chain of showing his inability to refrain from lame attempts at making virtually everything about himself.
