I do think he was onto something with single-payer and maybe even with getting people through some college without too much in the way of debt, but the breakdowns of his tax plan show a model that would never have gotten off the ground in Congress, so his ideas were largely non-starters.

I agree with you, but it doesn't mean that his ideas are inherently bad. What's missing is "how do you implement this idea in a practical fashion?"
That said, Bernie would be way less of a nationwide... nay, GLOBAL embarrassment.
And that was the main reason I didn't vote for him in the primary. He seemed too pie in the sky for me. However, he would certainly be a huge improvement over the national embarrassment currently in the White House.
Plus, I wasn't on board with single payer but now I most certainly am. I want to divorce insurance from employment and the sooner the better, IMHO.
