The moral of the story is, respect other peoples culture and if you go out to offend them then don't be surprised if you have to face the consequences. I have no sympathy for these people whatsoever.

Yep. I was in Bangkok as a kid and we were told of Americans being arrested for draping themselves over a statue of Buddha for a photo. Travelers need to understand and respect the local culture and this act in the opening post was total disrespect.
