"Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.), who apologized Wednesday for a lewd photo of him that circulated on the Internet, told a woman to whom he had sent sexually explicit photos, videos and messages that he would report her to the Capitol Police because she could expose his behavior, according to a recording reviewed by The Washington Post.
The woman spoke to The Post after the lewd photo was published Tuesday by an anonymous Twitter account. She shared a secretly recorded phone conversation she had with Barton in 2015 in which he warned her against using the explicit materials “in a way that would negatively affect my career.”
The woman described encounters and contact spanning a five-year period that began online after she posted a message on Barton’s Facebook page in 2011, leading to the sexually explicit exchanges and ultimately a pair of physical sexual encounters in Washington and Texas. Over time, she said, she became aware of and corresponded with multiple other women who engaged in relationships with Barton, who represents a suburban Dallas district and is one of the most senior Republicans in the House.
In that context, he mentioned the Capitol Police, a comment the woman interpreted as an attempt to intimidate her. “I want your word that this ends,” he said, according to the recording, adding: “I will be completely straight with you. I am ready if I have to, I don’t want to, but I should take all this crap to the Capitol Hill Police and have them launch an investigation. And if I do that, that hurts me potentially big time.” “Why would you even say that to me?” the woman responded. “The Capitol Hill police? And what would you tell them, sir?” Said Barton: “I would tell them that I had a three-year undercover relationship with you over the Internet that was heavily sexual and that I had met you twice while married and had sex with you on two different occasions and that I exchanged inappropriate photographs and videos with you that I wouldn’t like to be seen made public, that you still apparently had all of those and were in position to use them in a way that would negatively affect my career. That’s the truth.”"

The potential Blackmailer/"revenge porn" woman or the Representative that won't be threatened and is not going to run for re-election? Baron messed up big time, immediately admitted it when the photos came out and has zero records or accusations of any harassment.
IF this woman lives in Texas, she has broken Texas law.
Texas law prohibits the release of “revenge porn,” or the malicious act of releasing sexually explicit images or material without the depicted person’s permission.
Sounds a lot like Blackmail from this woman and that Joe Barton wasn't going to allow her to threaten him.
As for Joe Barton's career - the Dallas Morning News published a story this morning - Joe Barton is not running for re-election. He probably could get re-elected, but he is making the correct choice to not run.
We need new blood in Congress - 34 years is way past enough for any CongressCritter. Barton doesn't even have opposition for his seat in the house.
Barton said he believes he still has the support of much of his district, and could likely win, if he ran. “But it would be a nasty campaign, a difficult campaign for my family,” he said.
Barton said he made up his mind on Wednesday, but not just because of a growing number of Republicans calling for him to step aside.
His 12-year-old son Jack asked him not to run, he told The News. When he asked why, Jack told him: “Well you’ve done a lot of good. You have a good record, and you don’t need to keeping running to prove that,” he said.
First elected to Congress in 1984, Barton is the longest serving member of the Texas delegation.

Well...blackmail is the spin Barton is putting on it..except...where is the demand? The recording..heard audibly...shows the woman in question..to be quite surprised by his threat to go to the Capitol police--I think it was just damage control on his part..a threat to counter her allegation.
No matter..his career is over...I think he should resign--but the point is a bit moot, eh?

Really. How is Barton in trouble? It sounds like Barton had a difficult marriage and a difficult personal life. He sounds like many people in America...including the Democrat's last presidential candidate.

I dont care. legally he did nothing wrong.
I say the same thing of homophobes who we find out are gay, their personal life is none of my concern and if what they did was legal and what the secondary person did was not, then that person should indeed be prosecuted.
You should strive to be better than people like Joe Barton if you feel that way about him, this women showed herself to be far worse.
And to further that, I have always argued that the person in a marriage who cheats is far more responsible for the affair than the person outside the marriage who cheats, but that doesnt make that person any less guilty if they knew of the marriage.
