This is the way the system works when they do wrong and want to bury it.

"Plead no contest to disturbing the peace, pay a fine or we will pursue charges that will put you behind bars for two years".

It's blackmail.

Yes, I hope so, mathguy.

Pennies need to be discontinued...they are pesky.

=Mathguy;50272259]Thank goodness for the civil court system and cameras.

That county is going to literally crap it's own pants when they have to pay him for that sort of abuse.[/quote]

It is money. It is payment.

Years ago in Cali our power co. was granted a rate hike, and it was BIG. A customer came to the office with $146.23 in pennies. They refused it, and threatened to cut off their electric.
People took them to court, inside of 2 minutes the judge declared that pennies are legal tender like any other denomination and had to be accepted as payment to their bill.

Also, where does this guy live where a parking violation is only $10.00? Utopia?

I thought the conservative narrative was how law enforcement was always vilified, they're just doing their jobs, and the people at the receiving end deserved it, blue lives matter, etc.

Oh wait - that's when the guy getting choked is black, not white. Never mind.

Metered parking. Here it is $5 or $10 also.

When people resort to using change to make a point, they rarely do so with rolls of coins.
Many municipalities will not accept change as tender for fees, fines and taxes.

Pennies are legal tender issued by the government. There should be no reason why governments at any level can refuse to accept them in payment.

They should have just rejected the pennies and told him to come back and make payment other than small change or the case would be referred back to the courts and he would incur further penalties which if not paid would result in court baliff action.

In the US you can refuse payment, however in the UK there is a legal tender amount after which you don't have to accept.

What are the legal tender amounts acceptable for the United Kingdom coins? - Royal Mint

Here it's a case of do what I say, not what I do. A vendor can't charge you extra for using a credit card. Such as the most glaring example.

Gas. $2.29 gallon. With credit card $2.39. Yes some vendors found a work around but the government can do this.
