I think once it came out in the press trump wanted to be able to say it was fake news. I think that means more to him than having his preferred guy in at State.

But after the Flynn guilty plea, trump backs off firing Tillerson, most likely fearful to have someone on the inside whom he has dissed, goes outside with his stories of the inner workings at 1600 PA Ave.
i agree. Trump cannot afford to Tillerson talking. My guess is Trump really did think the case would wind up soon and was preparing to dump Tillerson after xmas if the case was ended.
Now he sees he is in a big pile of poo poo and needs to keep tillerson close in case Tillerson talks about the half TRILLION OIL DEAL and the billions Team Trump were hoping to scoop up....
