vanity fair raises a good point. Once this bill passes, the GOP does not really need Trump and dumping him might provide them the opportunity to rehabilitate the party in time to save the house for 2018. I would not be surprised to see the GOP turn on Trump once they get what they want. Repeal and replace is out of the question so there is no point hanging on for that.

Trump (along with his supporters) seems to feel that triumphing on taxes will give him the momentum to move onto other great things. It won’t. It will offer Republicans the chance to abandon him. More than anything, this piece of legislation is what Republicans needed from the president. Trump has been a building fire that Republicans wouldn’t put out because they needed it to light their cigars. But now the G.O.P. has got what it wanted. It can puff and move along.

Theyre wrong. The GOP has gone WAY too far out on a limb to defend Trump. The election day ads write themselves.

Yeah I've heard that speculation before. But it's not like Pence wouldn't sign it. And that would probably be preferable to having it been signed by a president who got ousted(well unless the economy goes bad, gives them a scapegoat).

But I can see them being less restrained in criticism of him once this passes and 2018 elections are on the horizon.

He's treated most of them like crap, so I wouldn't be surprised if they dumped him as soon as he's no longer of use to them.

The GOP is trump not the GOP as we knew them. The voters see the repub legislators are the problem, not trump. they dump trump and they go away.

The rich will still pay taxes. The agenda is not complete. Maybe next year.

Do they know who put Trump in office?

If the GOP got rid of Trump... let me change that... if they ever brought that up, the people that put Trump in office would melt all of their communication lines.

Was anyone paying attention last year?

You guys understand the premise here is not that Mitch or Ryan overtly take trump down. But they can step out of the way and let it happen..

they can quietly communicate with dems or cooperate with Mueller. I did not mean to suggest they would publicly kick him to the curb. but that would be more fun. Trump's shelf life is pretty short either way i very much doubt he would go for a second term, he old and i think he would rather just appear on TV and enjoy being a big deal without the schedule i still half expect him to declare victory and step down citing golf or his butt hurts.
