Funny. Maybe Mexico should be able to decide to make San Diego it's new capital. Mexico is also a sovereign nation after all and perhaps with more rightful claim to San Diego than Israel has rightful claim of Jerusalem...

It should never have been their nation to begin with. The UN screwed the pooch on that one BIG TIME.
Its like if you have refugees come here and then the UN decides the refugees need their own country for *whatever reason* and give them Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. Do you think Americans would stand for it? Should stand for it?
And, to my knowledge, every president has declined to do so. Because its the wrong thing to do.
Not right, or wrong, but completely pointless. Why waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on symbolism? We are hiking taxes on middle class, and then we have to watch Trump blow the money on building super-max style embassies in countries where we already have a fine embassy,
It's a tinder box because Arabs and Muslims and Persians hate Jews more than they love life itself.
It's not that they hate Jews any more than any other people. They are People of the Book.
The modern state of Israel has behaved like a rogue nation. It has engaged in ethnic cleansing (Israel sees that it needs to, for practical reasons) and some of the ultra-orthodox have made claims to territories far beyond the west bank, some want to restore what they consider David's kingdom all the way to the Euphrates. This rhetoric is not lost on the people of the middle east.
The UN had declared Jerusalem an open city from the beginning, and up until now we have honored that. It forms part of the basis for peace negotiations. Take that off the table and the peace efforts break down.
In truth, many in the ultra-orthodox community in Israel want the peace negotiations to come to an end, because it hampers or interferes with their expansionist efforts.

The US and just about every nation in the world have been trying to appease the Palestinians for decades and work towards a two state solution. Palestinians responded by electing terror organizations and firing rockets into Israel. It’s time for a new plan.

Its not right.
It is their nation.
Their nation was smaller until their neighbors decided to destroy Israel. At that point, Israel increased their borders making it theirs.
Had the neighbors not decided Israel should b destroyed, Israel would be contained within the borders drawn.
