Fifty-six percent of Americans say the federal government should be responsible for making sure all Americans have healthcare coverage, up slightly from 52% last year and the highest level in 10 years.
I believe the solution is a hybrid system. We should automatically enroll everyone in the US in a single-payer system for basic health care and emergencies, and then allow private insurers to sell policies for extra services. This type of system works very well in other countries.
The happiest slaves to have ever walked the earth.
There is no "freedom" in being sick or injured and having no way to afford care. Or in going bankrupt even if you do have insurance. Or in being denied because of a preexisting condition. No one should die for lack of care in a country as rich as ours.
Every other civilized country in the world realizes this, but somehow the U.S. just doesn't get it.
Well, that's not true. From the OP we know that the majority of Americans do. It's the backwards party in power now who doesn't give a damn about anyone but their rich lobbyist pals.
thats all? 56%? thought it would be way more than that
Did they follow-up that question with would you be willing to give up 25% of your income to ensure everyone has "free healthcare?'
They should have followed up with, would you be willing to cut the obscenely bloated military budget to ensure everyone has healthcare? That would be the place to start. The money is there. It's just a matter of priorities.

Me too! I want free health care, free education, free food, free cars, free golf clubs. You name it, I want it free.
I hope you have a good job to get all that free stuff.
