Much of the prostitution is ran by organized crime, and making it legal would definitely cut into their profits, some of which go into the pockets of our elected officials. Even MS13 gangs provide such "services" to customers.
This goes into the "technical" reason: https://www.hg.org/article.asp?id=31164 but I still say because of organized crime, the same reason they hesitate to legalize pot in some areas although I oppose that.
Given the choice of the two, I would legalize prostitution and make porn illegal as porn appears to do much more harm to individuals, couple and families.
MS13 is very heavily involved in prostitution and human trafficking.
Legalizing would not only hurt them and other organized crime groups but would also reduce illegal immigration.
Not to mention that abortion is also legal but apparently a woman's right to control her own body and her own sexual organs doesn't extend to anything done for money.
Well, a woman can sell her eggs off. Hmmm, seems we have laws that are all for separating the woman from her future children.... I wonder if there is a sinister reasoning behind this.
I wouldn't say America, I would say the Religious Right is a big glob of hypocrisy. How many religious leaders constantly get caught with their proverbial pants down on a regular basis? The Religious Right has way too much power and say in this country.
Is there a federal law against prostitution? I thought only state or local laws were applied. I'd bet that if a woman put "prostitute" as being her occupation on a federal tax return, nothing would be done.
The difference between paying for sex and paying someone to have sex is rather silly.....
If you prosecute someone for a victimless crime, then you are the one who should be arrested IMO
