Then the founding fathers were neither conservative, liberal, or libertarian. Liberals and libertarians agree with keeping the government out of it, while social conservatives have insisted creating laws to police it. Your argument would mean liberals are conservative.

Everyone knows where social conservatives stand on the issue. Lets not play games.

Can you imagine if this was Sessions saying something about coming after peoples guns?

This is just another fine example that the Republicans don't give a s**t about what citizens want, and proves they don't give a s**t about states rights.

I for one encourage Jeff Sessions to crack down on both recreational and medical marijuana. I am with you, Hoss. Send out the Feds and let's start arresting all those Grandmas taking it for pain and Parkinson's and those libertarians who love to smoke the evil weed.

I recommend you crack down on such bastions of marijuana debauchery like Florida, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Pennsylvania.

I dare ya...Bubba.

That's funny. Conservatives, especially social conservatives, are obsessed with restricting personal freedoms. Marijuana is a classic example. Here is a scenario where it is generating tax revenue in an environment where Republicans just passed a tax bill that increased the deficit by $1.5 Trillion. Do they see the revenue opportunity? No. They would rather put everyone in jail (and Sessions wants the prison sentences to be longer) because they want to control people's personal lives. And these are the same people that went crazy at the thought of healthier food being served in the lunchroom and removing junk food vending machines.

You’ve been conditioned to falsely believe a governing conservative must be a social conservative.

Which conservative wrote the Republican platform opposing gay marriage? A governing conservative because they wrote the Republican platform and a social conservative because they oppose gay marriage and want to control people's personal lives. Sort of like Michelle Bachman wanting to send gays to re-education therapies. Republicans opposing marijuana is on the record and the potential revenue generated is on the record and proven, so they are motivated to restrict personal freedom specifically. And they believe in state's rights except when they don't. They hate the government except when West Virginia has almost 10% of the population on Disability. I see no difference between a governing conservative and a social conservative.

Today's Republican Party is at core, a socially conservative party. That is a fact of life today. I agree with you that it shouldn't be the case but with the exception of the red states in the mountain west and Alaska, the GOP is the "Christian" party that's core agenda is forcing their narrow view of religious piety down everyone's throats. It's ironic that evangelicals believe it's their mandate to control everyone else's personal lives but can't seem to control their own.

Two-thirds of the country supports legal marijuana but because the evangelicals don't, it looks like we are going back to prohibition. Democrats in Congress should work towards getting Northern and Western Republicans on board to deschedule it at the federal level.

Northern and Western Republicans need to be voted out of office. Watching Republican Cory Gardner defend and try to save himself is laughable.

The majority of black voters voted against gay marriage. Did they vote for Republicans?
