They lost the war. To the victor go the spoils.

Slam the door shut, the US is full.

The US is a melting pot of people of all different backgrounds which shows as you can find good from all over the world, etc.

There is however not one Country that just lets just anyone in without benefiting economically from the new resident. In the form of paid taxes, spending etc.

People who are at or just above the poverty guideline will not pay into the system by paying much taxes or supporting the economy much. Mostly becoming a liability.

If family members would solely be responsible for that family member for a minimum of at least the next 15-20 years, I bet hardly any family will endorse people like that.

Merit immigration is fair to all.

Which one, the one from 1860-1865 or the one that's coming on the horizon?

The Left wants to "fundamentally transform America". That's why that Communist creep LBJ passed it.

This is only true in the eyes of modern settlers and immigrants. In the eyes of the Native Americans, one cannot own land... only reside on it. So it's equally valid to say that this is still no one's land.

So just because the Amerindians (who weren't native Americans) felt that way we should all adhere and comply to their beliefs in this modern day world? What makes their beliefs any more significant than ours?

President Trump is right again. Chain Immigration is dangerous and costing society too much!
Immigration properly done should be a net positive.

If America allowed itself to choose who comes ashore and who does not, America will choose those who can be the most productive. There should be no discussion of welfare for immigrants or free medical care for immigrants. Truck driver, mechanic, nuclear physicist, chemist, airline pilot or bricklayer; no one should come with no skills.

I love this policy. I actually had it way before Trump. It's like our country is a football team who had a terrible GM (Obama) who brought in all the wrong players and now Trump is changing that. You need good people to have a great country. You can't just let any bum who wins a diversity lottery in.

As usual, we hear snarky comments from The Left about where we all might have come from. But it wasn't until the 20th century that government was even capable of limiting immigration. Until the 20th century, you simply came ashore and called yourself an American if that's what you wanted to do.

Famous example:
Henry Morton Stanley, who fought on both sides during The Civil War, and went on to become the "famous American reporter" and explorer who found Dr David Livingstone (Dr Livingstone, I presume?). He was actually Welsh.
Back then, it also wasn't the government forcing the citizens of the USA to pay taxes for the new immigrants to leach off of. Back then, it was the churches that opened their doors and offered immigrants a place to stay and to be schooled until they could get on their feet.
