I agree with President Trump to stop chain migration a.s.a.p.

Merit based immigration is way better as you can check if a person is a benefit to the USA and not going to be a burden or taking jobs from Americans just to get in based on family relationships.

Many Americans have no clue how far up/down and sideways, up the family tree, chain migration can go as family relations can be for family members that a person hardly has relations with other than being blood related.

For some it takes 15 years or longer based on being brother or sister of an adult but every year some group reaches that group of people that have to wait that long and the tree of chain related green card will grow and grow.

In some areas of the world, people have lots of brothers and sisters, half brothers and half sisters, etc. That means one person can bring in many family members with hardly any understanding of the language and low or no education as long as the endorser can show a certain amount of savings, income, etc.

We can bring our parents into the Country as a primary group which goes pretty fast. Usually we are talking about people in their 80's who never lived here and I wonder if there is ever a check up when the elderly group will start to apply for benefits which shouldn't happen.

The cost of chain migration is too costly and now is costing peoples life!

People should come to this country because they have a skill or another benefit to us--not because they're someone's nephew, or shirt-tail relative.

IOW, merit-based immigration.

They came, overpowered the Indians, now this is THEIR country, and no one else is welcome.

See how that works ?

How would you know that? Many of our ancestors including mine didn't even come here till the early 1900's well after any conflicts with the Indians. See how that works? This was no one's country until it was established as the USA back in 1776.

Chain immigration is a bad idea. We just end up with people who were not doing well in their own country.
As usual, we hear snarky comments from The Left about where we all might have come from. But it wasn't until the 20th century that government was even capable of limiting immigration. Until the 20th century, you simply came ashore and called yourself an American if that's what you wanted to do.

Famous example:
Henry Morton Stanley, who fought on both sides during The Civil War, and went on to become the "famous American reporter" and explorer who found Dr David Livingstone (Dr Livingstone, I presume?). He was actually Welsh.

I dislike Trump but I do agree with him on this policy stance. Chain migration is madness and it cuts off the benefit of easier immigration to people who are highly skilled yet we have to allow in someone's brother regardless of skill or education.

Agreed. Chain immigration is as bad as birthright citizenship. Both need to be done away with.

Fortunately the civil war ended chain migration.
