Justice Don Willett (Texas) has been approved by the Senate to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. That means Trump has tied the record for federal appeals judges. Willett is an evangelical Christian and was on Trump's short list for a Supreme Court nomination. He's 51. Besides his judging experience, he once rode in rodeos, was a Deputy Attorney General (under Greg Abbott), was Special Assistant to the President (Bush) and Director of Law and Policy for the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and was a professional drummer.

In the Bush White House he led the development of an executive order to expedite U.S. citizenship for immigrant service members fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan

He's also known for his Twitter messages.

The Evangelical part of Trump's base must be happy.

One of President Trump's most important accomplishment, in his first year, that will have an impact for 20 to 30 years into the future.

Judge Willett is known for his devotion to Twitter. Indeed, he has before poked fun at President Trump, such as:

"We’ll rebuild the Death Star. It’ll be amazing, believe me. And the rebels will pay for it. —Darth Trump.”

However, I have no problem with Mr. Willett's rise to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. As I have often said before, Presidents should have the right to have their nominations pass through the Senate, unless factors show the person ill-qualified. Mr. Willett is not ill-qualified.
