Clapper did not appear to mean that Trump necessarily knew he had been recruited. It seemed to me Clapper was saying that Trump was either a knowing asset or an unwitting asset. Clapper did not seem to say Putin or his people had overtly recruited Trump .
Putin does indeed run rings around Trump, in fact pretty much every political leader in the World seems to out class Trump. About the only important promise Trump is keeping is hiring highly partisan extremely conservative judges. But the good news there is that they will hurt as many dems as Repubs..
If Putin is running rings around Trump and it's resulting in lowest US unemployment in 40 years, lowest black unemployment in 17 years, the end of ISIS, greatest stock market ever, etc....I say let him.

This isn't any different than "Weapons of Mass Destruction" which only purpose was to invade another country. So what is the real purpose of making russia a monster trying to destroying american "democracy"? It is simple, reshape the way people consume media. In other words, make it hard for people to hear independent/alternative voices by having google, facebook, etc. filter out everybody that questions the status quo. There is as much possibility of finding proof of "russian collusion" as for finding WMD in iraq.
Another purpose to ramp up lies about russia is to take time from people talking about the widely unpopular tax reform.

Ah, a victory that 33% of Americans approve of and the vast majority don't like or want? Trump and the GOP sure have a strange way of measuring "doing the peoples work". It only seems to involve a minority of people.
