Your post is very misleading. It was not the NY Times editorial board that wrote "A War Trump Won" it was conservative columnist for the NYT's, Ross Douthat, that penned that opinion piece.
Douthat's OP-ED was criticized by many for failing to emphasize the role Obama played in the defeat ISIS as well as the role of the Iraqs, Kurds and other groups. Trump did little but rest on the accomplishments of others.
It also disregards the fact that the real battle in Syria wasn't against ISIS. This was basically a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia. Russia backed Assad; the U.S. backed the rebel forces. Russia was bombing the rebel forces backed by the U.S. Trump decided to help his buddy Putin out by cutting off aid to the rebel forces.

So instead of a stupid proxy war... we refocused on the actual real threat. It's not Syria...
Of course. It is amazing how much then President Obama had to overcome from George Bush's presidency; and how much he is responsible for President Trump's success.

It was a bad strategy for defeating the enemy since it prolonged our time over there and it was without a tangible objective. With all that has occurred during his tenure that exacerbated the problems over there - primarily with Egypt, and Libya, and Syria... I am not giving him any credit on this.

If you say so. I'm not going to create the timeline of ISIS-controlled cities falling one by one, but the information is out there.
As for bin Laden, you would have gleefully nailed Obama to the wall if it had gone wrong, and you perfectly well know it.
It's amazing how ISIS has dropped out of the news. Wouldn't it be great if trump was the one to get us out of there for good
