Title pretty well says it. Government does a lousy job providing what services they do provide, do so at a horribly high cost, and government workers are never held accountable. Yesterday, a freshly rebuilt (to the tune of $180 million taxpayer dollars) railroad track was operated by the government. On the very first train run on that track, the government drone driving it went into a posted 30mph zone at 80mph, derailing the train, killing 3 people, injuring dozens. Even worse the main N/S west coast highway is still closed due to a railroad engine laying across it.

And...some people think turning health care over to the government-and government workers-is a good idea? Are you serious?

And before government intervention what was the healthcare situation? Here is a clue. Deplorable.

Operating a train is not the same as running health care. Was the Engineer driving the train working for the government or a private company?

Weird topic.

Just copy from others countries where it does work and try to implement in our system as best as possible. (There are a lot out there, so might have to choose a particular one; mixing and matching might indeed not be the way to go seeing how the government is going about solving problems...). Can't get much worse than it currently is, can it.

“Before government intervention...”? When was that? Even before Obamacare, the government controlled 2/3rds of health care expenses, when you consider government employees and retirees, military personnel and veterans, Medicare and Medicaid, etc.

That’s why health care costs were/are so high.

Do you really, honestly, I mean, truly, think that you have an intelligent thought there?
Or are you just trying to...I don't know, start another R vs L thread because you're bored, or you just like to argue, or something along those lines?

I mean, are you not aware that drivers for private companies also get into accidents?
You must be, mustn't you?

This post screams of "I can't do critical thinking, so let's find a scapegoat" from the OP. Everything is always the government lol. Oh well, what can you do.

There is only ONE thing our government can do competently--make itself RICHER, BIGGER, and MORE POWERFUL. Politicians understand that government exists for itself, and only itself. If it were to fulfill its obligations and reasons for existence, it would have a harder time convincing taxpayers to pay even MORE next year.

As for doing the things it is supposed to do (defending the nation instead of maximizing threats by stirring up hornets' nests, providing public services, helping the truly needy instead of those scamming the system, etc.), it could not be worse. That is by design, for the reasons above. Only continuing problems make citizens likely to support paying more.

You will understand everything our government does when you understand that what is good for Big Government is bad for the citizenry. The more money government has (good for it), the more it has to take from those who earn it (bad for you). The more power government has (good for it), the less freedom citizens have to pursue life, liberty and pursuit of happiness (bad for you).

The more crime that the citizenry suffers from, the more support politicians have for imposing more rules on law-abiding citizens--as if that would affect those who ignore laws. Politicians know that, but the very core of power is the ability to arrest and incarcerate anyone for anything. That's why America has an insanely high incarceration rate compared to every other nation (it isn't all the ridiculous Drug War, aka the huge power grab that bypasses the Constitution to steal citizens' money/assets).

The more poverty that exists, the more liberals demand more government (and taxes), which somehow never "trickles down" to the actual poor people. Check out a simple percentage pie chart of how Washington spends your money, identify the Departments that give money to the poor, cut that amount in half (since 1/2 the money must go to "administering" the programs), and see how much of your federal income tax actually goes to the poor people you think you're helping. It works out to about 3 cents on the dollar--would you give to any charity that only used 3% of contributions for their stated purpose?

The lower our educational achievement standards fall, the more citizens support higher property taxes (that force retirees and those who fall on hard times to lose their paid-for homes, as happens here in NH everyday)--but the money is spent on fancy administrative buildings, even higher compensation for school system administrators who don't teach, and generous full-time compensation for poor teachers who are protected by the public sector unions that negotiate with their public sector counterparts to maximize their wealth. We spend 20X the amount of money on education that we spent when I was a kid, and even while dumbing-down tests, we still see a continuing decline in educational achievement.

The more we give to Washington, the worse things get. And that's EXACTLY how Big Government works.

Yes, we should totally privatize health care for the elderly so they will be denied necessary treatment because they dont have $500 000 in cash lying around and we all know train accidents never happen with private companies.

Right, because professional drivers from private companies have never gotten into accidents.
