Regardless, they could decide to postpone the layoffs until after the holidays. This is a total scrooge move.
There may be other reasons like financial accounting or Unemployment, Scrooge notwithstanding.
When I worked in manufacturing, granted 40+ years ago, Christmas layoffs were the norm as they were whenever there was a contracted raise. Those two times plus, oddly enough, the 4th of July.
Companies always layoff at the end of the year, if they are going to layoff..it's a budget thing. The holidays have nothing to with it, that's simply a coincidence.
