E.P.A. Officials, Disheartened by Agency’s Direction, Are Leaving in Droves

More than 700 people have left the Environmental Protection Agency since President Trump took office, a wave of departures that puts the administration nearly a quarter of the way toward its goal of shrinking the agency to levels last seen during the Reagan administration.

Of the employees who have quit, retired or taken a buyout package since the beginning of the year, more than 200 are scientists. An additional 96 are environmental protection specialists, a broad category that includes scientists as well as others experienced in investigating and analyzing pollution levels. Nine department directors have departed the agency as well as dozens of attorneys and program managers. Most of the employees who have left are not being replaced.
...
The figures and interviews with current and former E.P.A. officials show the administration is well on its way to achieving its goal of cutting 3,200 positions from the E.P.A., about 20 percent of the agency’s work force.
Yeah it's always good when the scientists leave. That way the politicians don't have to listen to all that technical nonsense. They can just go right on believing the earth is flat and global warming isn't man made.

The dumbing down of America continues.

Will the PR stunts still last 7 more years? Me thinks people will start to know they've been shafted by then.

It seems like 4 years is not enough time for a new President of an opposing party to install new leadership.
Political appointments expect to be replaced once a new administration comes in.

Civil Service are protected by law and are hired during every administration as openings arise and can not be removed for political reasons.

I don't agree that "they're not gonna leave without a fight", they leave when they are supposed to leave.

BTW, the 'swamp' is more than anything else on K street. It is the lobbyists, and they haven't been going anywhere.

You misunderstand.
The object is to drain the swamp. But it will not be refilled.

When Trump first took office he put a hiring freeze on nearly every office.
