A family has been asked to take down a sign with the name “Jesus” from their Christmas display, after a neighbour reportedly claimed it was offensive.
Mark and Lynn Wivell said their homeowner’s association had made the request after they put up the display outside their home in Adams County, Pennsylvania.
I would want to see the HOA covenants. Many say no signs at all, regardless of content, and this seems big? I don’t live in an HOA for reasons like this.
THAT is exactly why our Realtor was told to NOT show us any properties governed by a Home Owners Association. I refuse to give anybody that kind of power over my home!
So strange that people buy in HOAs the don't want to follow the HOA rules.
The way I read it was that they were asked to remove the sign BECAUSE someone complained that it was offensive, not because it was in violation of an HOA rule. If it was in violation, then perhaps the HOA should have used that as the reason for asking them to take it down. "Your Jesus sign is in violation of rule X, please take it down." Anybody can say they are offended at anything so that's not a good reason.
