It is sadly not a surprise that we have 14 year olds committing murder. We have kids younger than this being violent and murderous. One has to wonder how far gone a 14 year old has to be in order to be a murderer.
I tend to lean to the conservative side, but I'm not sure charging three 14 year olds and a 13 year old as adults is really appropriate here. This seems more like a case of stupid mischievous behavior leading to tragedy than cold blooded murderous intent. Hard as it is for adults to believe, these kids probably did not truly understood the magnitude of the danger of what they were doing. Throw the book at them as hard as you can within the juvenile system, but life in prison for 4 kids barely in their teens for a poorly thought out prank gone horribly wrong seems overboard.

I didn't read the story very well. After reading it, this is where I stand. I don't see these teenagers as cold-blooded murderers. I see them as stupid, unthinking teenagers. This is an example of someone's thoughtless behavior costing someone else their life. This is a "you idiot, look what you did. Someone died because you were too stupid to think about what you were doing". Life in prison? No. However, I do think these teenagers need to understand the ramifications of what they've done.
How could they have not known better? Something lacking
These communities are just crying out for better role models as well as single moms who need to take a more proactive approach in raising their kids to be better citizens.
At present, these kids can not just be weaponized by certain minority groups to in effect freely carry out the most despicable of crimes with little pushback from those in their communities.
Really, kids should be a bit more than just a handy social welfare check for single moms in the hood.
1. Where were the parents?
2. Are the charges correct?
3. What precautionary measures were done to safeguard against people from throwing objects on this bridge, if any?
4. Do the kids have priors and if so...what punishment did they receive then to perhaps curtail this incident?
5. Kids this age should know the consequences of these actions...or should they?
As always mix, match, or come up with your own.
And for future reference you can come up with your own ideas. We don't charge money for them.
