The Trump administration has told lawmakers that it wants $18 billion over the next decade for the initial phase of a Mexico border wall, laying out for the first time a detailed financial blueprint for the president’s signature campaign promise.

The money would pay for 316 miles of new fencing and reinforce another 407 miles where barriers are already in place, according to cost estimates sent to senators Friday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. If the work was completed, more than half of the 2,000-mile border with Mexico would have a wall or other physical structure by 2027.

For a billion and some laws you could make e-verify mandatory, and make it illegal to rent to people who were not here legally. BAM problem solved.

This idea is just idiocy. Do something effective.

Yawn. Why does me suggesting that we do something cheap, easy, and effective result in responses like this? No really....why is it that you are against us doing mandatory e-verify, and making it illegal to rent to illegals cause you to go on about trying to make Mexico accountable, and discussing war?

You need to get with reality-Mexico isn't paying for the stupidity of a wall. If nothing else then because the idea of a wall, and the expense is just mind bogglingly idiotic.

Mandatory e-verify
Make laws about renting to illegals.
Enforce laws about hiring them.

Problem solved, and for FAR less then billions.

Farmers Branch TX tried this about 8 years ago. Kill all the attorneys first.

FARMERS BRANCH — More than seven years after beginning a divisive attempt to ban immigrants in the U.S. illegally from rental housing, a united City Council decided to cut its losses Tuesday — paying $1.4 million to the lawyers who fought the effort.

I agree, and Trump should find a way to make Mexico pay for it via tariffs and the like. They need us much more than we need them, and they would capitulate whether they wanted to give Trump a win on the wall or not.

E-verify won't work all on it's own. Unless we also deny illegal aliens birthright citizenship for their kids and benefits they will still come. Criminals and terrorists aren't looking for jobs either.

And Fremont Nebraska did the same, and its laws were upheld 4 years ago by the supreme court refusing to hear a appeal against them. The federal government however has refused to help provide information needed to make it work because insufficient information was being provided to them-ironically because of a Fremont law about collecting said information.

Catch-22 keeps Fremont from acting on controversial housing ordinance | Omaha Metro | omaha.com

This IS doable.

All your suggestions are fine with me (I cannot speak for the poster you addressed this to).
However it is not an either or proposition.
Some coming into this country never intend to work and can always find places to stay. Additionally drug runners and terrorists would not be effected. Thus we also need a barrier that is difficult if not impossible to overcome in certain areas along our border.

While I know you are a leftist, I cannot imagine you would oppose a wall/barriers in some of the worst areas for drugs, gang members, and potential terrorists crossing into our country.
