The two lone conservatives decided not to come, even though politics are never brought up at our family gatherings. Oh well, more food and drink for the rest of us.

I wonder why they wouldn't feel welcome? Maybe they worried about a potential gang bashing? There are those in my family who lean left, way left. They always come, they know that beating up on their beliefs won't be tolerated. Everyone is allowed their opinions, they just aren't allowed to beat up on others while at my house or my brother's house.
One son-in-law made an unkind crack about football players kneeling, thinking my military spouse would support him.
Instead, he got a terse comment from said spouse about how he put his life on the line for several decades so that even football players still had rights guaranteed by the Constitution to sit, stand, or flip us all the bird. Then he asked SIL if he planned to enlist.

Our union Democrat friends decided early in the year they couldn't hang with us anymore, not because of political talk but just the very idea we put an X in the box for Trump upset them. So we spent Christmas day with like minded friends, no political talk we all had a very nice day.
DH aunt did however choose Christmas day to invite us to 'like' Tom Steyers Facebook page. We aren't sure if she's that out of touch or if she just doesn't care. Anyhow we each decided to decline the invite and at her daughters request not make a big thing out of it because she apparently spends too much time red faced and angry at Trump approving Facebook posts and they are worried about her heart.
