Years ago I was in retail management. Dealing with cash was always a big pain. Getting change from the bank, watching for employee theft and potential robberies took away from running the business. As well as storing the cash sales in the safe and doing cash bank deposits. I could say it easily took 10% or more of my overall work time to deal with and created a lot of headaches.

As a consumer many years removed from the retail side of things however I do like having the option to pay by cash. Having that disappear seems a little scary. A couple of computer keystrokes and you are penniless.

How are you penniless?

Fraud?

I use a credit card for most purchases. If fraudulent charges show up I'm not responsible and I toss it out and grab another.

It appears the OP does not realize how credit cards work.

Perhaps he was in retail management before credit cards.

That's why you use credit card to pay, and you make a payment when you receive the statement.

Better set, setup auto-payment of the statement balance. Then you simply review the statement but don't have to go through the motion of making a payment each month.

The main thing most people don't like about a cashless society is it could be quite Orwellian and allow authorities to easily track individuals through transport movements and everything they their purchase and where they purchase it.

Then again they can already track you using your mobile/cell phone.

Going cashless will promote a rise in the black market. 30% of Americans don't have any credit cards and the poor can't qualify for them.

Not a bad thing, I really don't carry cash most of the time. I'm ok with the cashless society, but I'm not ok with having to download an app on my phone, which presents a problem because I don't have a I-Phone or similar.

That's why you have to use multiple credit card with some that's under the spouse or parents as an authorize user, so tracking makes it literally impossible.

Using app is a good idea, but I am not a big fan of it. I only use it when I have the most to gain, such as incentive like coupon or cash back deal, or else, thanks but no thanks.
